AIRPORTS

Glasgow is served by 3 international airports, with connections across the UK and the world:

  • Glasgow Airport is only 15 minutes from the city centre with an express bus service from outside the terminal.
  • Glasgow Prestwick Airport is very accessible with a 45-minute train or bus ride to the city centre.
  • Edinburgh Airport has a direct bus service from the airport to Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station which takes under an hour.

RAIL

Glasgow is well connected by train from across the UK by 2 main stations:

  • Glasgow Central Station links Glasgow to the south
  • Glasgow Queen Street Station operates routes mainly to Edinburgh and the north

Avanti West Coast runs several daily services to London with a journey time of approximately 4 hours 30 minutes.

The Caledonian Sleeper connects London to Glasgow with overnight services.

Eurostar international high-speed railway service connects European mainland destinations to Glasgow via London (St Pancras station).

GUIDELINES

Guidance on electronic travel authorisation (ETA)

ETAs will be mandatory for travel to the UK and are being introduced in several stages for different nationalities.

Each individual visitor is responsible for ensuring they have their own correct authorisation to enter the UK. Travelling from the EU

What you need to know about crossing the UK border and visiting the UK as a citizen from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein.

SEA

Ferries from Belfast and Larne in Northern Ireland dock at Cairnryan in the southwest of Scotland, with a bus service taking passengers to the city centre in 2 hours 10 minutes.

Mainland Europe connections dock in either Newcastle (3 hour drive from Glasgow) or Hull (5 hour drive from Glasgow).

ROAD

Scotland has an extensive road network. Glasgow is linked to Edinburgh with the M8, England on the M74, Stirling with the M80 and the West Coast of Scotland with the M77.

SPT ZoneCard

  • ZoneCard tickets allow unlimited travel by train, bus and Subway within the city, with one-day, three-day and longer options available.
  • Tickets are provided on smartcards for delegates to use, and are best arranged in advance.

FIRST BUS

  • First Bus operate a number of bus services running regularly throughout Glasgow and the surrounding area, meaning there is always a bus ready to take you where you need to go.
  • Delegates can make use of a number of different ticketing options, including day tickets, weekly tickets and Freedom tickets.

OvoBikes

  • Glasgow's cycle hire scheme is a cost effective, green and healthy way for delegates to get around the city.
